![]() ![]() There's interesting reading in the February 2021 edition of Yamaha's Music Production Guide, where there is extensive info on Easy Sounds' "Nostalgia" add on pack which is designed to add more authentically VA-style synth sonic (and operational) qualities to the Montage/MODX. So, besides the apparent lack of intuitive interface (although the touch screen is very nice) and not so many direct knobs for parameters, what is it that’s lacking for it to be called Virtual Analog? Then you can have knobs programmed to be like macros for multi-destination changes, including the Superknob. ![]() ![]() You also have user configurable step LFO and motion control which is like a sequencer for parameter changes. And then you can have 16 such parts, so it’s even multitimbral. Then it’s fully polyphonic, meaning you multiple that by 128. And there’s a very complex modulation matrix with many sources and many destinations. Each can also have its own filter and there are so many filter models. So, an element is an oscillator and you can have 8 of them, each with separate pitch, amplitude and filter envelope, as well as an LFO. However I recently started digging around and correct me if I’m wrong but each AWM part is made of 8 elements where every element is a sample-set but you can also select basic waves such as saw, pulse, triangle, sine, etc. I always thought of my MODX as a rompler with FM.
